Fitness Program - Soar Into Shape
Soar into Shape is a health and wellness initiative designed to help you achieve a more optimal state of health through exercise and healthy eating. The program was first launched in February 2007 as a call to encourage members to eat healthy and increase physical activity during the winter months to prevent weight gain and obesity. Overweight and obesity are associated with four of the ten leading causes of death (heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes) and results in $195 billion in direct and indirect medical costs. Also, individuals tend to become less active during the winter months due to inclement weather and reduced sunlight, which is linked with seasonal affective disorder.
In 12 weeks, members will increase fruits and vegetable intake, exercise at least 45 minutes 4-5 times a week; and increase water consumption. In addition, members participate in bi-weekly weigh-ins, weekly classes, and wellness challenges.
