A comprehensive corporate wellness company program selects and follows goals set out by health care professionals and/or the domestic wellness committee. These goals are based on the results of the health screen. The goals provide direction and facilitate the development of activities to promote their achievement. Usually a responsibility of the wellness committee, the planning of corporate wellness company program activities and promotion should be visible and available for tracking purposes.
Promoting wellness themes outside of the company walls creates great opportunities for corporate wellness company community partnerships and good press for the company's local business standing. Depending on the size of your company, the corporate wellness company provider could be a committee of volunteers from within your organization, one/some paid health care staff, an outside wellness vendor or any combination of the above. Regardless of the number of staff available to operate the corporate wellness company program, certain factors decide how effective the program will be: what the goals are, the reason they were selected and the process used to achieve them.
If your company is hiring an outside vendor or able to bring a new staff onboard for the corporate wellness company program, there are some attributes they should have in order to earn their pay. Professional health and wellness personnel have a wide range of educational qualifications and skills that benefit a wellness program. Sometimes, medical professionals add to their training and become corporate wellness company advocates after years of hospital work. Others train specifically for the wellness field.
Specifically, they need to be versed in behavior change therapy, exercise theory, nutrition counseling, and knowledgeable with the health risks present in your employee population. Good communication skills are a must for corporate wellness company program staff mediate information flow between the employees, management and outside professionals both verbally and as a record-keeper.
If company finances allow, there are three types of corporate wellness company program professionals.
- The initial health screening tool can be administered and results delivered by a Wellness Screener.
- The second phase of a corporate wellness company program development could be carried out by a Wellness Counselor who would personally assist employees to understand their test results and choose a method that will welcome them to the road toward better health and less risky behavior.
- A Wellness Instructor can be hired to facilitate seminars, teach mini-classes and be an onsite educator for increasing corporate wellness company awareness.
A qualified wellness professional should be able to fulfill all three roles unless the employee population is such that more than one staff is necessary to carry out all the duties.
It is imperative that the health screen be in hand when the corporate wellness company program is selected. The main question is: does it cover the health risks that need to be addressed? Additional considerations are:
- What methods are used to reduce health risks and have they been used by other companies? If so, how many?
- Is there any testimonial data from previous companies to support the use of the proposed corporate wellness company system?
- Does the company offer complimentary wellness resources?
- What kind of ongoing measurement do they advocate and how do they monitor follow-up strategies?
- Do they have a method for ensuring referrals are completed?
- In what way can you determine that the program is successful?
- Do they list options for internal marketing of the program?
- Do they supply incentive ideas for participation and have data to support this?
- Do they offer any recruiting suggestions?
